Zonal is a pricing structure that is based around delivery destination. Royal Mail has allocated each postcode sector a zone according to criteria relating to delivery point density. The concept is designed to maintain the average national price at its current level but is based on it being more expensive to deliver to households in rural areas, and cheaper to deliver to built up commercial areas.
